FAQs

Q: How long does therapy last?
A: The length of therapy is variable. Some people come in for short bursts of time, while others come for years. It really depends on what your needs are. Usually, I will schedule four to six weekly sessions to start with, and then we can check in from there to see what feels right; whether to continue, or if your needs were met by those initial sessions.

Q: How will I know when I am done with therapy?
A: Once again, this is variable, and something we can discuss as the time nears. You are always free to leave, so if you feel like it is time, then I will respect that. If you change your mind, you can come back. Generally, when you feel better able to solve issues on your own, you are starting to need therapy less. If you aren't sure, we can slowly reduce the frequency of sessions, and see how that works for you.

Q: Do you do couples counseling?
A: Currently, I do not offer couples counseling. Occasionally, a client may bring their significant other, or a family member in for one session together, and that can be helpful, but this is much different than couples counseling.

Q: Do I have to be able to draw in order to do art therapy?
A: Absolutely not! Artistic skill has very little to do with art therapy. Instead, we are working with pure expression. For more about art therapy, check out my Art Therapy page.

Q: Do I have to answer questions that I don't want to answer?
I will never make you do anything you don't want to do. I will support you any time you tell me that you are not ready to do something that I suggest. Of course, there will be times at which therapy will cause discomfort, as you are going to be talking about uncomfortable things. There is a difference between the discomfort of revealing previously unspoken truth to your therapist in a safe manner, and the pain of pushing yourself past your comfort zone to say something you are not ready to say. I can help you learn the difference between these two.

Q: How much do you charge?
A: My fee is $110.00 per session.

Q: What forms of payment do you accept?
A: I accept cash, checks, Visa, Mastercard & Discover cards. Debit cards with Visa or Mastercard logos work as credit cards. Also, I accept medical savings cards (FSA/HSA) that have the Visa or Mastercard logo.

Q: How long are your sessions?
Sessions are 60 minutes long.

Q: Do you take insurance?
A: I do not take insurance, and have no future plans to do so. However, as a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), I can give you a receipt and your insurance company will likely compensate you for visits as an out-of-network provider. I can coach you on how to do that part when the time comes. I can accept medical savings cards (FSA/HSA) that have a Visa or Mastercard logo.

Q: Do I need to do anything for the first session?
Yes, state law requires that I have you sign an Informed Consent document, as well as a Disclosure Statement. Please print them out, fill them out, and bring them with you for the first session.
