About Elyn Tromey

My name is Elyn Tromey, and I provide art therapy and counseling to adults of all ages in Boulder, CO. I received an M.A. in Art Therapy and Transpersonal Counseling at Naropa University in 2003. I am a Registered Art Therapist and a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in the state of Colorado.

My original training in undergraduate school was as an artist. During that time, I discovered the world of art therapy, and set up a practicum at a chemical dependency center for adult men. After graduation, I became more and more involved with the mental health field, while still pursuing art and exploring a colorful array of unusual jobs and experiences. During that period of time, I worked with a variety of populations in the mental health field, including youth in the criminal justice system, severely developmentally disabled people of all ages, elders, and more. I also taught art classes to adults of varying ages and backgrounds who were looking for a new creative outlet.

During graduate school, I received training in mindfulness meditation in addition to art therapy and counseling, which I continue to use in my practice. I also had a practicum at HospiceCare of Boulder County. My internship was at Project Self Sufficiency where I worked primarily with young parents in low-income situations. After graduation, I volunteered as a counselor at Access Counseling for two years. I have been in private practice since 2003.

As a therapist, I draw upon my past and present life experiences to help others with struggles in theirs. I know firsthand what it is like to turn painful experiences around in order to thrive and enjoy life, so I know that it is possible. In addition to being a therapist, I am happy to be a spouse and parent, and fully savor the beauty of living life in Boulder.
